Lesson Two: Colors

I have discovered an author of children's signing books that are absolutely spectacular, and she has made a video that I want to share with everyone to teach colors.

Story Time With Signs & Rhymes: See the Colors

She covers all of the colors that I find important with a cute little song:

YELLOW

BROWN

GREEN

RED

BLUE

WHITE

PURPLE

ORANGE

BLACK
I was not able to find the picture for pink, but she goes over it in the video.

I hope you guys find this lesson easy!

P.S. If anyone would like to gift the books from this series to Cote, it would be greatly appreciated!!

4D Sonogram

My Experience today with the 4D sonogram was spectacular! We got to see what Miss Cote Marie looks like!! It was the most amazing thing ever. She has a nose just like her mommy, and she has her sperm donor's lips and chin! She is absolutely stunning. She weighs a whopping three pounds (but she is only supposed to weigh two and half at this point.) Her head measures at 30 weeks, and her stomach measures at 30 weeks and 2 days. Her femur however only measures at 27 weeks and 6 days. Since I am 29 weeks today, her head is a week ahead and her legs are about a week behind. But, she is perfect!! I cannot wait to meet her!!

Here are some of the pictures::
Such an Angel!

Is that an arm or a leg?? Can't decide..

Baby Nursery Signs

The bedding that I have chosen for Cote's nursery has a small selection of zoo animals that I would like her to learn to sign. It will be easy and fun since the animals will be present in her room. These signs will not be a necessity, just entertainment (which is why they are separate from the lessons).

The bedding is as follows:
As you can see, the four main animals are the giraffe, an elephant, a zebra, and a monkey. The signs are as follows.

The hand is in the shape of a C and moves up from the neck at a diagonal much like that of a giraffe.

The hand is in the shape of a C and moves out from the nose in a squiggle much like an elephant trunk.

The fingers are spread apart and the hand moves across the chest much like the stripes on a zebra.

The hands are shaped like scoops and move simultaneously up and down the sides of the body to mimic a monkey.

Because a Zebra is a horse I am also iincluding the sign for horse because it is a more common animal.

The hands resemble a two fingered L with the thumbs placed against the temples simultaneously moving forward and backwards like horse ears.
I will include these animals later in the videos, but until I get over this cold the pictures will have to suffice.

Enjoy!

Fear Not Faithfuls

When I created this blog, I had hopes of instant gratification when it came to postings and responses. As I explore and learn more about the blog, I have come to realize that family members cannot necessarily follow the blog if they do not have a membership of sorts. Therefore, my hopes are dashed when it comes to verification of family participation, but I have faith. :)

I am also swamped with school right now. Luckily thought things are beginning to fall into place. Spring break is almost here, and mom has loaned me her video camera. Progress is in sight! Yippee!!

In the meantime, I hope lesson one is being thoroughly practiced and reviewed!!

Lesson One: Letters and Numbers

The foundation for all language begins with the alphabet. Therefore, the first lesson I would like to present is going to be finger spelling and counting. Below is an image to reference for the basic alphabet:

Each letter can be reviewed individually here

The following is an image to reference for basic ASL counting, numbers 1-10:

Calling All the Crazies

Hey there family and friends,

If you have successfully found my blog, I am beyond excited! This is where I plan to connect everyone to little miss Cote Marie. There is one trimester left of anticipation, but that is just enough time to prepare!

It is my plan to teach my little angel baby sign language. It will be proper ASL but very simple, of course. There are many reasons to support this decision. By teaching a baby to sign, the communication gap is bridged, and the signs helps to mold and stimulate the mind. By accessing both sides if the brain, signing can expand the baby's capacity to learn language. She may also begin speaking earlier than normal. For all of these reasons, I ask for family and friends to support my decision.

In order for the signing to be effective, those who plan to interact with Cote will need to be familiar with some signs. This will help to enforce the signs but also allow her to communicate with others without frustration.

Thus, I am brought to the preparation!!

In the next series of blogs, I will post video tutorials to help everyone to learn.
